Is Low-Stomach Acid Making You Look And Feel Like Bird Shit?

1ce4b65c4eb29cfa75955fee204c

I’m not sure what bird shit feels like, but my educated guess is that it’s soulless and I know that doesn’t feel good. As far as looks go, bird shit has got to be some of the stupidest shit I’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s tiny, deceivingly resembling to blueberry-swirled ice cream and obnoxiously shows up at the worst times — on my shoulder while flexing on the beach and on the windshield after a fresh wash to name a few.

So this is my message for today; don’t be bird shit. If I didn’t lose you at blueberry swirls then great, let’s talk stomach acid, beauty and how to not be bird shit.

Why Low-Stomach Acid Sucks Camel Dicks

Stomach acid is the body’s first line of defense against germs, bacteria, viruses, fungus, yeast, mold and parasites. It’s call “acid” for a reason, and acid kills germs. Alkaline substances, such as antacids neutralize acid, allowing dangerous bacteria to grow, which is why antacids are horrible for you. They stop the burning side effects of low-stomach acid — acid reflux — but make things much worse in the long run.

Most people are actually LOW in stomach acid, causing heart burn, reflux and every other digestive disorder we know of. When stomach acid (HCL) is too weak, we cannot digest properly. Low stomach acid then leads to partially digested food, which means fermenting food in the gut, causing gas, contributing to yeast, bacteria, and parasite overgrowth! At the root of any disease you will find low-stomach acid and an imbalance of “gut-bugs”.

The Many Functions Of Stomach Acid

Stomach acid is incredibly important and serves many functions. It functions as one of the core processes in the digestive process, which influences our entire physiology. For example, iron is required by red blood cells to carry oxygen. However, proper levels of stomach acid (HCL) are required for proper absorption of minerals like iron, silica and calcium. Because most people’s stomach acids are too weak to do the job properly we have an epidemic of anemia, digestive disorders and public bathrooms that make me want to commit sui.

Low-stomach acid is why we get gas. When the food we eat doesn’t properly digest it ferments like the pile of dog shit that’s sitting on my back porch. So it’s low stomach acid levels end up making us anemic, our bones brittle, gives us parasite infections, candida, and even makes our hair turn grey. We need abundant amounts of silica to have beautiful hair, skin, nails, teeth and everything else in the name of vanity. Silica is a precursor to collagen and elastin, which is responsible for thick strong hair, smooth young skin, healthy nails and cavity free teeth. When we can’t break down silica it leads to not only wrinkles and saggy skin, but emphysema, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and countless other common “diseases”.

By the way, great sources of silica are; cucumber, okra, pine nuts, horse tail, and can be found in supplement form if you’re too lazy to eat real food. 😉

The Real Causes Of Low-Stomach Acid

A common misconception that people have is acid-reflux is caused by too much stomach acid, when in fact, the opposite is usually true. Indigestion is usually the result of not being able to properly digest, in part because of the crap people eat and their crap attitudes. Candida and yeast overgrowth weakens the upper stomach sphincter valve, which allows stomach acid to leak upwards into the lower esophagus, thus burning it. Eventually, bacterial and yeast issues such as candida begin to grow.

Anything made with wheat or flour, refined sugar and sweet stuff weakens stomach acid. What people don’t know is that stomach acid kills yeast and bacteria and essentially “turns off” the candida growth gene. These bacterial and yeast issues are at the core of our health considering we are more bacteria than we are human. No one can be totally healthy if they are low in stomach acid, and most people are low. But it’s not by mistake, many of our accepted unacceptable actions have caused it. Here are a few:

  • Overeating– The stomach acid can’t digest whatever we throw into our mouths. If we don’t eat mindfully we end up only half digesting and ferments, causing rotting food and gas.
  • Stress– When we stress the body doesn’t produce stomach acid because it takes energy. In stress mode the last thing the body thinks it needs is food, so it doesn’t prepare. The thing that goes wrong is most people are just stressed out all the damn time for no real reason. Therefore, when they do eat in their wonderful home that their completely ungrateful for, they’re stressing out on how their life sucks and not digesting the food that some poor mexican just spent 14 hours harvesting sweating his dick off. Chill, be grateful you can eat you damn fools.
  • Poor diet– When we eat a diet that’s incorrect for our body type, one that’s not right for our unique body, high in processed food, and sugar we set up the circumstances for low-stomach acid. For example, processed foods have no nutrients leaving us deficient in nutrients like zinc and B-vitamins (both which are needed in creating sufficient stomach acid). Not to mention processed foods dehydrate the body, a primary cause of poor digestion and low stomach acid. Sugary foods feed bad bacteria and can lead to candida, parasites and H Pylori – a bacteria that is known for eating up the stomach lining causing ulcers and low acid.
  • Dehydration– Without water our stomach lining dries up and in our protection the body stops making stomach acid. Otherwise, without a lubricated gut, the acid would burn holes in our stomach.

Rebuilding Stomach Acid Levels

The good news is that proper HCL levels can be rebuilt with dietary changes and certain herbs and supplements. There’s no short cut though. As you can see by now everything is connected, there’s no mistake we stop digesting food well and get sick, old and ugly — it happens because we make sick and ugly choices! That being said, I’ll give you the most well-rounded approach to bringing up stomach acid levels and reclaiming your Disney princess hair, honey buttery smooth skin and that cupcake sprinkle glow back to your eye whites. Here ya go:

  1. Get Enlightened- Understand this word; enlightened, meaning to become light. Lighten up bitches, life ain’t so serious. The more serious you take something the more important you’re implying it is. What is more important than us, we cannot handle, therefore it handles us. Stop letting life manhandle your ass and do what the cowards never do, and the most courageous people in the world do; stop giving a fuck. The bravest thing you will ever do is be completely serine and blissed out because you CHOOSE to every moment. Stop handing fucks out like a horny 13 year old boy giving away Valentines on February 14th — no one even likes those things anyway. Instead, practice the Ancient Zen Art of Not Giving A Fuck. Start giving away love, everyone loves that shit and it doesn’t give you a gut infection.
  2. Hydrate– This one isn’t rocket science, drink high-quality, REAL water. If you’re drinking tap water I feel bad for you son, you got like 99 problems and fluoride is only one. Ditch the tap, you’re better than that. Drink S. Pellegrino, Mountain Valley, or Gerolsteiner. These waters are pure spring water with the dissolved solids (minerals) still intact, making them incredibly hydrating. If you’re always thirsty and drinking water it’s because you drink poop water. At the very least get a gallon of spring water and add some real sea salt to it for minerals. Minerals, especially sodium and zinc, are needed for proper secretion of stomach acid.
  3. Restore Bacterial Balance-  If the stomach contains the wrong kind of bacteria, this can create an overly alkaline environment. In order to bring the inner ecosystem of the stomach back into balance, fermented foods are extremely important. Foods fermented with a culture starter provide beneficial bacteria and yeast that replenish your gut and help fight infection and overgrowth. If you show signs of bacterial overgrowth then the small intestine needs aid. This is where fermented foods will assist the bacterial environment of the small intestine in returning to a state of balance. Here’s a hot tip; the small intestine should be relatively free of all bacteria (the good and the bad)—it is the large intestine, or the colon, that offers long-term housing to your helpful microbes.
    probiotic-drinks
  4. Support The Small Intestine- Once the small intestine begins to digest and pull nutrients from food, we see the release of the remaining 10% of stomach acid. The small intestine is an alkaline environment; it releases alkaline fluids, like bile (from the gallbladder) and enzymes (from the pancreas). If the pancreas is exhausted it is unable to produce the enzymes that the body needs to break down food. Other times, there is an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine, making the small intestine overly acidic and interfering with the activation of enzymes. Signs of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine include cramping pain and heartburn. When the pancreas is exhausted and not producing the full spectrum of enzymes that you need to break down food, it is essential to supplement. My favorite is Assist SI targets the small intestine and specifically delivers enzymes to help with the digestion of food.
    assist-si_1_2
  5. Apple Cider Vinegar-  It helps to take some raw apple cider vinegar with water several times a day (3x daily just before meals). I go through tons of this stuff weekly. I add it to my  gauc, sauces and dressings for salads. You can find inspiration for recipes for salad dressing and sauces all over my Instagram.
    Bragg-Organic-Apple-CIder-Vinegar-300x300
  6. HCL& Betaine– As you eat and chew your stomach becomes increasingly full, along with the presence of amino acids trigger the release of stomach acid. Roughly 50-60% of stomach acid is released during this time. In order for your body to pick up on the presence of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), it needs to first break down proteins. It does this with the help of stomach acid. It is a vicious cycle. If you didn’t get enough stomach acid during the first step (de-stressing) you most likely won’t be able to release enough stomach acid during any preceding steps, no matter the fancy supplements. So considering you’ve lightened up and are working more importantly on a healthy mind and diet then HCL can be incredibly beneficially. My favorites are Thorne’s HCL and Body Ecology’s Protein & Dairy Assist. Both products use the purest ingredients on the market, they’re highly researched. These pills mimic the release of stomach acid and work wonders. Do not use them long term as they can make you dependant, but while healing they will dramatically help by warming your body back up to being comfortable with producing HCL.

  7. Mastic gum – This is a powdered tree resin that can be purchased in capsule. It is great for helping get rid of H Pylori. One of the first obstecles to regaining your digestive fire is getting rid of the roadblocks like bacterial infections.

So you see, stomach acid affects practically every bodily function, and without proper levels of stomach acid, we literally start falling apart at our core. Proper levels of stomach acid are needed by the body and mind for everything. I’ve covered enough here for the day. If you want to learn more watch this informative video, and for specifics, you can get my eCourse at Perfect Digestion or coach with me.

Raw Chocolate Macadamia Bliss Balls

IMG_3566

These balls melt in your mouth…

…and in your hands.

I’m not saying that melty balls in your hands is a good thing. However, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing either. Actually, what makes these decadently delicious balls of magic so melty is a special ingredient, coconut oil. If you know anything about the wonders of da-coco then you’re likely in favor of melty balls — you dirty rascal.  If you’ve yet to be informed of the goodness that is coconut oil then allow me to blow your mind open really quick.

The Amazing Coconut

The wonderful thing about coconut is the special type of saturate fats it contains. Unlike most saturated fats – like those found in meat and cows dairy – coconut contains Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) – which are fatty acids of a medium length. Meaning, they take a shorter amount of time, or less energy to metabolize.

These fatty acids go straight to the liver from the digestive tract with minimal liver enzyme activity. There they are turned into ketones and used as a quick source of energy. Ketones can also have therapeutic effects on the brain, providing rapidly improved cognitive brain function. This makes coconut oil great mid-day fuel, especially for writers, entrepreneurs or anyone doing a lot of creative work. This is one of the main reason why I created these treats!

Among these benefits here are a few other of the immeasurable wonders that coconut can do:

  • Burn Fat- MCT’s in coconut oil have been shown to increase 24 hour energy expenditure by as much as 5%, potentially leading to significant weight loss over the long term.

  • Kill Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi- When coconut oil is digested, it forms a monoglyceride called monolaurin. Both lauric acid and monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi.
  • Balance Appetite- The fatty acids in coconut oil can significantly reduce appetite by balancing blood sugar and hormone levels, which may positively affect body weight over the long term.

  • Beauty Food- Coconut oil can make you beautiful as shit — the reasons are endless. It moisturizes skin and hair from the inside out, applied topically it can reduce wrinkles and stimulate hair growth. It works holistically on a deep level to balance the body hormonally and bacterially, which keeps us youthful on the most primordial level.
  • Shred Belly Fat- Coconut oil seems to be especially effective in reducing abdominal fat. Considering most belly fat is accumulated from hormonal imbalances, and that coconut oil is effective in aiding hormonal health it only makes sense it would also relieve it’s symptoms! Eating the right types of fats – such as coconut oil – can help you shred fat easily.

Raw Chocolate Macadamia Bliss Balls

(Makes 8 Truffles)

In addition to these treats being packed with the many benefits of coconut oil, I set out to use luxury ingredients prepared in a way fit for a king. They are sugar-free (sweetened with the purest, best tasting stevia on the market), made with sprouted, stoned-ground macadamia nuts, and some of the best, organic raw cacao.

The combination of flavors and bliss chemicals in these balls are a recipe for truly guilt-free snacking. I won’t hold out any longer, here’s how you make them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Soaked Macadamia Nuts
  • 1/2 cup Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil (Nutiva makes theirs from fresh coconut flesh, which is free of mycotoxins/molds)
  • 1/2 cup Raw Cacao Powder
  • 10 ‘squirts’ Liquid Stevia (Most stevia is bitter and poorly processed. The best I’ve found is by Body Ecology. It’s cold-water processed and deliciously sweet without the bitterness.)

Instructions:

  1. Step one is to soak your macadamia nuts for 2 hours to remove enzyme inhibitors. This makes them easy to digest and more nutritious, not to mention they are easier to grind into a nut butter when soaked.
  2. Next, you have two options; go the easy route and throw your nuts into a Blendtec or other high-speed blender until a “butter” consistency – or – you can go caveman style like me and use a mortal/pestle and hand-grind that shit.
    IMG_3562
  3. Once you have a nice paste you add in the coconut oil and work the two ingredients together. This will give you the base of the truffles.
  4. Add cacao powder and stevia last. When you’ve worked the ingredients all together you will have something that looks like Nutella, or this…
    IMG_3564
  5. Before you roll them into balls and add the final touches be sure to give the batter a test taste. Using liquid stevia can be tricky because you can’t “see” if you’ve evenly distributed it. It usually blends pretty nicely however, but just incase, give it a taste and see if it’s sweet to your liking. If so, form the batter into desired balls – you should get about 7-8 balls if you make them the size of small golf balls.
  6. Optional is to roll them in coconut flakes or raw cacao powder. This adds more of an aesthetic appeal than anything but can be quite nice texture wise too!
  7. Freeze for at least 10 minutes then enjoy when ever! As I mentioned these are great writers fuel, or afternoon pick-me ups.

Let me know what you think! Comment below if you love raw chocolate!

Everything You Need To Know About Juicing

Do you juice?

Juicing has become increasingly popular ever since Jack LeLanne put out one the very first centrifugal juicers on the market. One on hand, this is a great sign that people are becoming increasingly more health conscious. On the other hand, juicing is not the panacea it’s portrayed to be — there are many mistakes too often made.

Is Juicing Good For You?
Again, yes and no. Juices and juice fasts have been associated with many healing miracles, especially when it comes to deep healing such as liver and lymphatic congestion or cancer. This is largely due to the cleansing properties and effortless digestion of raw juices. The Benefits:

  • Hydration- In a body which has become overly contracted, in such cases of many cancers where the body is extremely dehydrated and acidic — juice can restore proper alkalinity and hydration. At the root of nearly every imbalance is dehydration. Clean, filtered water isn’t always enough to hydrate considering hydration goes beyond chugging water. There must be a certain bioavailability of the cells in the water we drink as well as sufficient minerals. Green juices made from celery and cucumber and juices with lemon are especially hydrating because they actually make the cells of the water easier to absorb.
  • Balances Stress- Green juices are loaded with calming mineral such as potassium and magnesium which open the body up. These minerals relax the muscles, ease tension and allow a calmness in the nervous system. When our bodies are stressed we get dehydrated which causes us to experience issues such as; moodiness, irritability, headaches and constipation. A properly prepared juice can counteract these symptoms of stress. Keep in mind, not all stress is in the mind! Lack of sleep, poor digestion, bad food choices and even airplane travel can stress the body. In our modern world we are bombarded by “stressors” so a green juice or green smoothie can be a great tool for just about anyone.
  • Detoxification/Cleansing- If made properly, a juice can take acidic conditions such as disease and restore balance with assisted cleansing. Though the body cleanes for us, many have congested detoxification pathways and could use the help that juicing provides. Regular consumption of green juices strengthens and tonifies all bodily functions by nourishing the organs, glands and deep down to the cells. Because juices are so hydrating and are packed with live enzymes they are excellent catalysts to the detoxification process.
  • Beauty Builders- Juices are incredibly nutrient-dense and so easy to digest. Digestion takes up most of our energy and a lack of energy means lack of beauty.  When we consume juice we give the body a break, this extra energy is then used for building beautiful hair, skin, nails and so on. Just like we look like crap   when we’ve lost sleep, then seemingly reverse aging in just a good nights sleep, juicing can provide us with the same extra energy to build our beauty back. Not to mention, the incredible amount of nutrition is sent directly to the organs, nourishing us at the deepest level. This means the excess nutrition can reach our extremities; skin and hair.

To Juice Or Not To Juice
Before you power walk your Lululemon ass to the next MoonJuice you might first want to inquiry with yourself on a few things…

  • First, can you afford it? I’m just being real when I say juicing does not come cheap. A good juicer can run you anywhere from$300-1000. Also, you can’t skimp ingredients, only organic here. You’re maximizing the nutrients when you juice, which means if there are pesticides or GMO’s in your juice, that’ll be maximized too. Um..EW.Don’t let something as futile as money stop you, I am simply bringing you aware to the truth. If you’re health is important, then you’ll find a way — perhaps start with a cheap juicer and start off a few days a week until you’ve worked your way up. As much as I love juicing even I wouldn’t be blowing $15 a day on a cold-press from Erewhon unless I knew I could afford it. The trick is the art of minimization. Juicing is worth it, if you’re smart. Cut out the crap from your diet (the stuff 20% that produces 80% of your unhappiness) and use what you save for that delicious, luxury cold-press.
  • Consider Blending- Juicing separates out the fiber; without fiber, they are digested quickly (for those with disease, this can be helpful), however, for most this is a problem. Most fruits and even some vegetables contain fair amounts of concentrated, natural sugar and when juiced can cause yeast imbalances and sugar spikes. These will cause acidity in the body because on a bacterial and blood-level, when insulin or bacteria is imbalanced the blood becomes acidic. Therefore, infections become worse, viruses break out, and a host of hormonal imbalances can occur.Though juicing can be done properly, I find blending superior in this way and many others. Blending keeps the fiber and many other phytonutrients otherwise lost in juicing. Also, because juices assimilate so quickly they don’t pair well with anything else. Green smoothies; made using a high-speed blender such as a Blendtec, can combine many healthy varieties of nutrients. You can add healthy fats such as avocados, hemp seeds, chia seeds or egg yolks. Superfoods and Jing Herbs can be added with a ease for a powerful anti-aging bonus. You can even get away with added sweetness from berries, cherries and some fruit without negative side affects because of the present fiber and fats. Not to mention, green smoothies in a Blendtec are just so creamy and delicious; who doesn’t love delicious?

Juicing Vs. Blending
Blending provides you with a full raw meal that is loaded with nutrients and enzymes with the benefit of predigested cellulose. We can’t digest cellulose; however, a Blendtec can! This is great news because cellulose is what our healthy gut bacteria live off of! Getting a green smoothie now, loaded with this predigested fiber is an amazing way to dramatically improve our health by nourishing our gut flora.

If you’re not utilizing one of these super powered machines by now then you’re missing out on one of the greatest technological advances in the modern health world. Blended smoothies have it all; hydration, nutrition, fiber, easy of digestion and deliciousness. Most of our digestive issues come from dehydration and not chewing. Well, thanks to high-powered machines like Blendtecs our food can become liquid within seconds — which would normally take the body hours. I’m not saying stop chewing and never slow down, but in today’s world a Blendtec could save a life.

6 Rules For Creating The Perfect Juice
If you want to reap the benefits of juicing without compromising your health here are 6 rules of thumb to juice by:

  1. Don’t juice when you have a yeast or bacterial infection; such as candida or other digestive disorders.
Get this under control first by consuming loads of probiotics and probiotic foods/liquids. Otherwise, juicing will just aggravate symptoms — don’t confuse this as just “detoxing”, your digestive system is whack, fix it first. This will take about 3 months. Remember to nix all sugar, gluten, dairy, and processed foods. Better yet, check out Body Ecology and look into the guidelines there or check out my complete ecoures Perfect Digestion.
  2. Add fiber or fats to optimize the digestion of raw vegetables.
Fiber, including chia seeds, flax meal, or hemp seeds are great souces of fiber that will pair well with juices/smoothies while also slowing down the absoprtion of any sugar. Other things to add would be; coconut cream, coconut oil, hemp oil, flax oil, green powders, probiotc liquids, egg yolks, fermented coconut yogurt, colostrum powder or raw milk kefir/cream if you can digest raw dairy. This makes juice much more satisfying and these fibers and fats work as carriers for the nutrients to the cells.
  3. Don’t Juice Cruciferous Vegetables.
These vegetables such as; brocolli, cauiflower, asparagus, kale and cabbage will suppress thyroid function. They contain oxylit acids which cool the body. Because too many people have an underactive thyroid from stressful living, it would be very unwise to ever take these vegetables raw. They are best fermeneted or lightly cooked. Instead, use non-starchy vegetables and herbs like celery, cucumber, fennel, cilantro and so on. You can find an exact list of all my favorite juicing ingredients in my ecourse.
  4. Don’t Juice Sweet, Starchy Vegetables.
Carrots, beets, jimaca, sweet potatoes and most fruits just contain too much sugar to be juiced. These are best eating raw with all the fiber present, or blended into smoothies.
  5. Use ingredients that pair well together.
In the Body Ecology Book you can learn all about food combining and apply it to juicing. The most simple way to understand this would be to juice only the vegetables you’d find in a raw salad. Most of the time a proper salad has some sort of leafy lettuce, spring greens, herbs and cucumber, celery (nix the carrots and tomatoes). To say the least, if you keep your juice base made of celery, cucumber and lettuces like romaine, you’re in good standing. From there, try different fresh herbs like mint, arugula, basil and lemon and lime are great ways to cut the bitterness. Keep it simple. Who juices a potato?
  6. Drink juice only on an empty stomach.
Juice is best as the first meal of the day, after a glass of warm lemon water. Really, that should be the only time  you drink juice, unless fasting. Otherwise, if you had a meal prior chances there is still something in your stomach and the juice will just ferment on top making you gassy. When you’ve had your juice, give it 45 minutes before you eat anything solid.

There you have it! Comment below with your experience. Do you prefer juicing to blending or vice versa?

Free Online Event: The Healthy Gut Summit

Are you one of 70 million people suffering from digestive diseases in the United States? You might be… and not even know your gut is the cause!

images

There’s something you might not know about me, I was one of those 70 million for a long time. For sake of brevity I won’t get too into detail. I struggled with skin issues my entire childhood. If it wasn’t some random allergic reaction, it was a rash, dry scaly skin, or planters warts. I even remember getting my first pimple in 3rd grade.

Little did I know at the time, these were just symptoms of my digestive system not working. Growing up pretty poor financially, I didn’t eat the best food. As a child I never thought that the pizza roll dinners, pizza parties and 8 glasses of pop day — what’s water? — was one of the causes of my digestive and skin issues. To me, this was completely normal.

I was on the fast track to some major heath issues and didn’t even realize!

Then I Got Lucky

At age 10 I was blessed by the heavens with a “health class” in school. That class stirred something in me, it was a great “AHA!” moment. Though I still had many dots to connect along the way, it was a start. I remember immediately I stopped drinking pop and milk. It wasn’t the cure but it was a step.

Fast forward, I started to get a handle on the diet thing. Some things cleared up in my physical body — the acne started to go away, I wasn’t getting weird rashes every week — but by this time I had done such long-term damage to my adrenals, thyroid and digestive system from all the nutritional and emotional stress that I was faced with learning some truths about health.

What I Learned

To tell you everything I learned would take a book — in fact I wrote a book and it’ll be out soon! Until then, I am taking coaching clients and will see you through these challenges that I look back at now and can laugh with victory. If you can’t afford coaching right now I get it, been there. But I don’t want that to stop you from overcoming your health challenges.

That’s why I’m sharing with you a FREE online event called “The Healthy Gut Summit”. Instead of getting just my view point you will also get to relate to 32 top physicians in alternative medicine. These people are incredible leaders and true heath pioneers. I wish I had them around when I was struggling, that’s why I want to share them with you today!

At The Summit you’ll discover how your digestive health is intimately linked to your immune, endocrine, circulatory and central nervous systems. In other words, if you fix your gut, you fix your entire immune system and it will fix everything!

Like I said, The Healthy Gut Summit is free and it’s also online! The dates are February 9-16, 2015.

This event features one-on-one interviews with 32 of the world’s most beloved and respected thought leaders and physicians. As they each share fascinating new insights and research on how gut health impacts our most basic physiological processes–including how we think and behave–a story will unfold showing that a healthy gut is the foundation for physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The Healthy Gut Summit will provide you with all of the information you need to:

  • Understand the rise of chronic disease and the symptoms that signal their presence.
  • Learn how your environment affects your gut microbiome.
  • Receive practical advice about dealing with diet, stress, toxins and parasites.

Let’s take a look at what really makes these miraculous transformations of the body possible:

A Shift In Perception

The fundamental first step before we can step into the wisdom of transformation is to change our perception of our bodies. I am not only talking about the way we view our bodies judgmentally speaking [fat, old, ugly, thin, etc.] but to recognize what the body really is.

Most of us label our body as a noun, a thing. Though to some degree our body could classify as a noun; however, what we call our “physical” body is not as physical as we think. The body is made up of matter, therefore, we call it material. If we take a deeper look we can see that all matter is made up of atoms, which is really just moving space. Our body is more of a process than it ever is a material — concrete — finished object.

Right now your body is in the flux of constant change. You are not the same body you were when you first started reading this article. That’s because you are constantly recycling information in the form of thoughts, emotions, food, chemicals, and billions of other invisible particles. You are never the same person twice. In fact, none of the atoms you were bon with are in your body right now.

Right now you are ingesting this information, and it is actually having pysiological effect on your body. If this information makes you feel smart and happy then the positive emotions will be relasing chemicals that are actual immuno-modulators; enhancing your immunity and activating positive genetic expression.

So let’s begin viewing our bodies as the living activity they are; a verb if you will. If we see the body as a never ending process we stop fighting change; which leads to stagnation, and engaged in transformation. This thought alone will open the doors to change and transformation. Where a precpetive of th body as a noun or thing, makes it a very “dead” phenomenon.

Reinventing The Body

There are fundamental activities that promote transformation. Here are a few:

  1. Seep- When you sleep your body rejuvenates yourself. During sleep your body activates the self-repair mechanisms; growth hormones and enzymes, which slow aging. You likely already know you should be getting good sleep. The importance of it cannot be neglected if you want reinvent your body.
  2. Meditation- There is now scientific proof; experience, that correct meditation can increase the enzyme that controls biological age in little as four days. During meditation, there is increased genetic expression of self-repairing mechanisms and also a down regulation of the bio-makers of aging. Meditation brings homeostasis (balance) to the body. This is the self-healing mechanism of the body. Drugs or medicines, even diet will fail unless it brings balance back to the body. Meditation is a means to becoming more aware. You can practice meditation with guided audio tapes, attend meditation centers or get a TM teacher. The long-term goal is that meditation becomes a way of life; a wakefulness that is carried with you momentarily. You can learn more about my views on meditation here.
  3. Movement/Exercise- The more you move, the healthier your body. The type of exercise isn’t so important. If anything, the less important you make exercise the easier it will be for you to creatively fin ways to move; dancing, walking a dog, playing in a park, surfing, or house cleaning. There of course is the entire deep study of exercise sciences you can explore, for sake of brevity let’s keep it simple; just move, and move often and joyfully.
  4. Diet- When it comes to diet, let’s keep it simple above all. Instead of going for the next diet craze or book let’s use our simple intuition; eat REAL food. That’s it. Real food, incase you forgot, doesn’t come in a box or can. It comes from the ground and nature. These things are called vegetables, fruits, nuts/seeds, meats, eggs, fish and other plants like herbs. Shop at local farmers markets, the perimeter at the grocery store (avoiding isle as much as possible, other than maybe for coconut/olive oil) and get a good cook-book so you can learn to make your own food. Food is information, it is a frequency like you are. Processed and manufactured foods have no frequency, no life force and therefore rob you of yours. Feeding your body real food increases life force, Prana or Chi and will be one of the most effective ways in transforming your body. I  personally recommend The Body Ecology Diet for optimal nutritional wellness.

  5. Emotional Well Being- The limbic brain is your emotional brain, it is where you store emotional experience and were we react to things from. For those who have experienced emotional trauma, getting a better understanding of who you are (here’s a hint, you’re not your brain) wil be highly helpful in moving beyond the limitation of fears and negative emotions. What you want to do is to practice mindfully choosing positive emotions. You are not victim to your emotions; though you may have experienced differently, you are the choice maker of your emotions. Positive emotions such as; compassion, love, joy and empathy are immuno-modulators. These emotions create limbic resonance, which secrete neurotransmitter and neuropeptides like oxtocin, dopamin and serotonin will enhance self-healing. On the other hand, negative emotions create a disruption of homeostasis. Always reach for a higher frequency, you are in control.

It’s really this simple.

Putting It All Together

Now that you know the key components of a Transformational experience here is the formula;

  • Wake up each day with the intention of experiencing  a joyful transformational experience. Give gratitude to how rested you are from your sleep and how much energy you will have for the day. Carry this intention with you all day.
  • Drink a liter of clean, spring water followed by a nutrient-dense breakfast or perhaps a green drink.
  • Cultivate the feelings of compassion, peace, joy and self-love.
  • Experience lightness of soul. I encourage you to find your true self. If you think you’re just a personality and a body you will experience that very limited point of view and see it wherever you go. If you know yourself as a spirit, life will become an effortless joy.

Who Are You Really?

Did you know that you are more bacteria than you are human? Only 10% of you is human, and the rest of you is bacteria. You are made up of 600 trillion cells, 90% of them bacterial. You are a walking bacterial colony, all which work together to make up what you call “your self” or your body. This colony exists in largely in  your intestinal tract but is every where. The balance of your micro-biome influences your DNA, and self-repair mechanisms. All of the five tips I shared with you will help keep your bacterial colony in balance. In addition, I recommend a probiotic-rich diet to ensure you are replenishing yourself with the healthiest bacteria possible.

This goes to prove the phenomenon of your body as a process and opens the doors to knowing yourself as something that is beyond body. The body is self-regulating, self aware, and knows itself. Ultimately, this bacterial colony which you are is a microcosm of the cosmos. You are star-dust, bacteria, and even “non-stuff”. By tapping into the truer nature of yourself, you fill find that limitations are transcended and you can be transformed.

5 Ways To Beat Bloating

How was your Christmas? I hope you had a wonderful time, filled with love and gratitude. You probably did. It was probably filled with Christmas Cookies too, maybe too many? If the holidays put your will power at an all time low, don’t sweat it. I am writing this blog today with two helpful messages:

  1. Guilt is more toxic than any cookie — so enjoy the heck out of those cookies.

  2. There are healthy ways to restore balance to the digestive system.

WHAT IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF BLOATING?

It’s important to understand that bloating is a symptom. When our digestive systems become weak, inflamed and imbalanced we experience what we know as “digestive problems”. Most people’s strategy for ending bloating is highly ineffective in the long run because it only treats the symptom. Even removing offensive foods only treats the symptom of bloating. Therefore, to really “beat the bloat” once and for all, we have to get to the root.

When eating for optimal health, it is essential to ask where the imbalance begins. For each person bloating occurs a bit differently, depending on one’s overall health. Some people experience bloating from simply eating too much while others feel bloated even after taking supplements or simply drinking water, this tells us that the root of the problem might be in the gut itself. In this case, we need to pay special attention to the body’s bacterial balance, the community of “microbes” living in the stomach, small intestine, and colon.

Removing foods that offset a healthy bacterial balance and adding probiotic rich foods which restore balance is then essential for healing the bloating at the root. More on this in a minute!

When we remove foods that irritate the lining of the digestive tract and feed an infection in the gut—the battle is half won, and the bloat goes away. But unless we “re-inoculate” the digestive tract with the good microbes found in probiotic foods, bloat will return soon as we eat the “wrong” food again.

TREATING THE ROOT

The key to treating belly bloat? Restore the body’s bacterial balance with probiotics.

In functional medicine or holistic healthcare, physicians treat the root of a disorder and the symptom at the same time. While western medicine only deals with treating symptoms. This type of treatment is completely ineffective in the long run and even the short term relief is subpar because they do not restore balance, rather mask the symptom.

Most of the time, the problem returns because the root of the disorder was never addressed. The benefit of the steps I am about to share with you is that they will support the body through imbalance and even restore the body to health. A holistic approach will treat both the root and the branch at the same time!

BEATING THE BLOAT

Here a few simple strategies that will remove bloating and work to heal at the source:

  1. Follow the 80/20 principle & proper food combining for optimal digestion- 80% of your meal should consist of non-starchy vegetables, ocean vegetables, and probiotic veggies. 20% should consist of animal protein, starchy vegetables, or one of the four grain-like seeds [buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, or millet]. Animal protein and grains/starchy vegetables are never eaten together [i.e Meat and Potatoes]
  2. Always eat fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit ferments easily and quickly in the digestive tract. To ensure that fruit doesn’t sit in one place for too long and moves smoothly through the gut, eat it alone and on an empty stomach.
  3. Avoid raw foods. According to Chinese medical food therapy, the cold nature of raw foods is an insult to the body’s digestive fire! Our digestive system prefers food and herbs that have a warm nature (think ginger) and are predigested with gentle cooking. The key is in proper cooking techniques; steaming, slow-low cooking, lightly sautéing, baking and fermenting.
  4. Add ginger and turmeric into your diet. A “power couple” in the world of herbs, ginger and turmeric have enjoyed a long history together and are touted in Ayurvedic medicine as a combination that supports longevity. Ginger is warming, while turmeric is cooling. Both boost immunity and aid in digestion.
  5. Remove foods that contain:
Gluten- a protein found in wheat and other cereal grains.
Casein- a protein found in cow’s milk.
Sugar- except those sugars found in low-glycemic fruits like lemon, lime, and pomegranate.

  6. Avoid FODMAP foods- This includes foods that contain short-chain carbohydrates, which are not fully broken down in people who are sensitive to FODMAP foods. FODMAP is an acronym: Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols. When eaten, FODMAP foods ferment in the small intestine, causing pain, gas, and bloating. For a full list o FODMAP foods go here.
  7. Take Probiotic Foods with each meal- These foods are more powerful than any pill or supplement for restoring gut health. They contain living bacteria that bypass digestive acids and thrive in the gut; thus healing the root cause. They also are loaded with enzymes which make them great for aiding in he digestion of our food. Eat them with anything and they will eat up the sugars, predigest the proteins and assist in nutritional alchemy; turning precious nutrients into bio-available goodness for muscles, hair, skin, nails, tissues and more.

I hope you find these tips practical and useful in your life!
